The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Department celebrates an increase in the number of students earning an Industry Based Certification at East and West High School in 2021-22.

In the 2021-2022 school year, Victoria East High School saw a total CTE enrollment of 77.3%, an increase from the previous year’s enrollment percentage of 73.03%. Victoria West High School had a total enrollment percentage of 76%, an almost 12 percent increase from the previous year’s 64.03%. 

Dena Justice, CTE Director, is very excited about the number of students enrolling in CTE Programs of Study.  “With the high schools moving to an eight period day, more students have the opportunity to enroll in CTE courses, earn Industry Based Certifications, and pursue a chosen career path while in high school.”

The number of students earning an Industry Based Certification also saw an increase, with Victoria East High School reporting 22.6% compared to the 2020-2021 school year’s 12.82%, and Victoria West High School with 27.39% compared to the previous school year’s 18.57%.

An increase in the number of students who earned an Industry Based Certification while also being enrolled in a CTE course was also reported. Victoria East High School had a percentage of 29.2% in the 2021-2022 school year and 17.56% in the 2020-2021 school year. Victoria West High School reported a percentage of 34.6% in the 2021-2022 school year, and 29.01% in the previous school year. 

More students earning IBCs is the District’s Strategic Plan finding of ‘All VISD students will find their “AND” in action. Through multiple opportunities of exposure, experience, and pursuit, students are exploring pathways and gaining opportunities through academic and technical programs for a successful launch following graduation.
