Athletic Department Quarterly Update:

As you know we have been going through a Heat wave that is out of the ordinary.  And I commend all of our Coaches, Trainers, and Staff for doing an amazing job of keeping our Athletes safe not just with the in-season sports but with the off-season sports as well.  Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Tennis, and Golf are off to a great start.  We have set our dates for Fitness Gram for this year.  We are currently working on our Intramural Elementary Kickball Schedule and hope to get it started by the first of October.

Child Nutrition Department Quarterly Update:

  1. All schools in VISD have been approved for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) which allows ALL STUDENTS to receive a FREE breakfast meal and lunch meal daily.
  2. All campuses were approved for CACFP after-school FREE dinner meals as long as there is an enrichment event occurring on campus.
  3. 5 elementary schools were invited to participate in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program which provides for all students attending the approved campuses to receive a fresh fruit/veggie snack 2 times per week.  The invited campuses are Dudley, Crain, O'Connor, Rowland, and Shields. Unutilized produce from the Fuel Your Body Fuel Your Mind Share carts will be picked up by a representative from the Community Connection Center.
  4. All elementary and middle schools have Shared carts where students may place unwanted whole fruit, milk, and packaged items. At the end of the day, all items not being taken by the students (or school nurse) will be picked up by a representative from our Community Connection Center.

Counseling Department Quarterly Update:

  • In November, Counselors will launch a new, online platform called SchooLinks.  This is a college and career readiness tool that will:
    • Create personal graduation plans for all students
    • Track CTE participation, programs of study, and IBC testing
    • Provide students with access to Apply Texas, FAFSA, and scholarship opportunities
    • Provide students with information on colleges, trade schools, majors, admission requirements, etc.
    • Allow for online access to course selection
  • Since June 2023, Gulf Bend Center has provided VISD staff with three opportunities for Youth Mental Health First Aid Training. All counselors and SEBS have completed the training.  Additional training dates will be provided throughout the school year.
  • The Curriculum Dept. and the Office of Innovation are working together to increase enrollment in Dual Credit courses (college courses taught by Victoria College professors that offer high school and college credit)

Health Services Department Quarterly Update

The Victoria ISD Vision, Hearing, and Acanthosis Screening Program is underway at all campuses. VISD partners with several organizations that help with obtaining a professional vision exam and glasses at no charge. If you have questions about these programs, please reach out to your campus nurse. The campus nurses are also educating students and staff on the standard precautions to prevent the spread of illness such as proper handwashing, respiratory hygiene, and cough etiquette. We wish you all a safe and healthy school year.

Child Nutrition Survey Question:

In our continued efforts to reduce sodium, the Child Nutrition Department would like to start herb gardens at our campuses. We need volunteers to assist us in this project.  What campuses would be the best ones to start the pilot?

Athletic Department Survey Question:

If we had the funding, what other intramural sports would you like to see VISD offer?
