Bond Oversight Committee's Role in Transforming Mission Valley Elementary School, They’re Not Done Yet

In November 2021, the residents of Victoria made a pivotal decision that would shape the future of education in our community. With overwhelming support, Victoria voters approved Proposition C - New Mission Valley Elementary School, a $25.845 million capital construction bond. This resounding endorsement paved the way for a transformative journey, one that would see the Mission Valley campus evolve into an innovative learning space designed to empower our students.

At the heart of this transformation lies the Bond Oversight Committee (BOC), an independent, community-based advisory committee established to provide radical transparency in the use of proceeds from the sale of bonds authorized by the Victoria Independent School District (VISD).

The primary purpose of the Bond Oversight Committee (BOC) shall be to help ensure Victoria ISD bonds, as adopted by the Board and approved by voters, are implemented on time, with quality, with transparency, and within budget. The BOC's mission is to ensure that these bonds are executed according to the stipulated timeline, with the highest standards of quality, in a transparent manner, and strictly within budget.

As we embark on the journey of transforming Mission Valley Elementary School, the BOC's role becomes even more pivotal. They will not only keep a watchful eye on the progress but also monitor the financial aspect of the project. Moving forward, their charge is to ensure that each expenditure aligns with the allocated budget. This commitment to financial responsibility will guarantee that the community's investment is managed wisely and that the project remains fiscally sustainable.

The members of the Bond Oversight Committee have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the community by dedicating a significant amount of time to their responsibilities. They meet monthly to review project updates, financial reports, and ensure that the project is proceeding as planned. These monthly meetings serve as a platform for in-depth discussions and decision-making, allowing the committee to maintain a close watch on all aspects of the project.

The time and effort invested by the BOC members in these monthly meetings are a testament to their dedication to the community and the success of the Mission Valley Elementary School project.

The groundbreaking for the New Mission Valley Elementary School is not just a symbolic event; it represents a promise made to our community's children and families. The Bond Oversight Committee plays an integral role, along with district administration, in ensuring that this promise is fulfilled with unwavering dedication.

As we move forward on this transformative journey, we extend our gratitude to the members of the Bond Oversight Committee for their dedication to education in Victoria. Together, we will create a brighter future for our students, one that exemplifies the power of community involvement and the pursuit of educational excellence.
