VISD Named TAEA District of Distinction 5th Year in a Row

For the fifth consecutive year, the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) announced that Victoria ISD is a District of Distinction by meeting or exceeding the rigorous 14-point rubric.

The rubric examines the district's visual arts program from participation in TAEA through membership, exhibits, contests, and community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service, and collaboration with other content areas.

TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the fifth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data.

This year, 1,200 districts were eligible to apply for this award through TAEA. Only 68 districts met the high standard and received this honor for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Out of the 68 districts that received the District of Distinction recognition, VISD is one of 16 districts that have received this award for 5 consecutive years, every year it has been available.

“It is a pleasure and honor to work with the Visual Art Teachers PK-12 in VISD,” said David Edge, Director of Fine Arts. “The dedication from the teachers and relationships they build is evident in the success of the students and the honor of this award! Thank you, TAEA, for helping drive the importance of the Visual Arts in every school's curriculum.”

Being recognized all 5 years places VISD’s Visual Arts Program in the top 1.3% of all of the Visual Arts Programs in Texas.
