visd april champion of the month

On Tuesday, April 4, Victoria ISD selected Ann Birmingham, a VISD Child Nutrition employee of 26 years and DeLeon Elementary School Child Nutrition Manager, as the April Champion of the Month.

VISD and Atzenhoffer Chevrolet partnered in May 2021 to highlight one VISD staff member each month as its Champion of the Month. This staff member is nominated by their peers for showing commitment to going above and beyond in everything they do each and every day.

At VISD, we know our best work is done in partnerships and groups, all while aiming toward a common goal. The goals of the district are larger than the team, and the goals of the team are larger than the individual. Our Champion of the Month lives by this belief every day and, in turn, receives a brand new Atzenhoffer Chevrolet truck to drive around for the next month.

For April, Birmingham received multiple nominations.

“The students adore her,” said Dana Bigham, Director of Child Nutrition at VISD. “ No child will ever go hungry with Ann on the line. She greets every student with a warm smile and a friendly hello.”

“She manages the kitchen and helps prepare nutritional meals for the students at DeLeon Elementary School,” said Laura Chapman, Child Nutrition Manager at Smith STEM Academy. “I am honored and blessed to be her friend and VISD co-worker.”

“To her fellow managers, she is their mountain of information and guidance,” said Bigham. “Ann can always be counted on to help out no matter the task (distributing meals during the pandemic, cleaning up after [Hurricane] Harvey, helping the teachers with class/meeting activities, preparing foods the students have grown). You name it, Ann is willing to do it for the kids. Her dedication is very much appreciated, and she is a role model to be emulated.”

When asked how she felt after being named Champion of the Month and receiving her new truck from Atzenhoffer, Birmingham said, “Excited and overwhelmed. I’ve been here a long time and have never had anything done like this. I actually thought I was in trouble! But it was great. I was in tears because now I know how much they appreciate that I’m here and everything I do.”

From VISD, we thank you, Ann, for making us #VISDProud!
