February Champion of the Month VISD Angela Ybarra

On Thursday, February 2, Victoria ISD selected Angela Ybarra, Head Custodian at Shields Elementary School, as the February Champion of the Month.

VISD and Atzenhoffer Chevrolet partnered in May 2021 to highlight one VISD staff member each month as its Champion of the Month. This staff member is nominated by their peers for showing commitment to going above and beyond in everything they do each and every day.

At VISD, we know our best work is done in partnerships and groups, all while aiming toward a common goal. The goals of the district are larger than the team, and the goals of the team are larger than the individual. Our Champion of the Month lives by this belief every day and in turn, receives a brand new Atzenhoffer Chevrolet truck to drive around for the next month.

Ybarra received multiple nominations this month.

Shields Elementary School Nurse Sarah West was one of Ybarra’s nominators. “No matter what kind of day she is having, good or bad, she is always ready with a smile and something witty to say to make your day even brighter,” said West. “She goes above and beyond to keep our campus clean and ALWAYS decorates for the current holiday!”

“Every holiday that approaches, our staff and students cannot wait to see what decorations await us,” said Kelly Gabrysch, Shields Elementary School Principal. “Although we appreciate the way Angela beautifies our campus on a regular basis, what's most admirable is the energy she brings to our campus. Angela makes everyone feel included and brings so much positive energy to our campus. We thank Angela on a regular basis for all that she does, but we believe she deserves to be recognized on a larger scale for her commitment to making Shields a great place to be!”

“I’m speechless! I’m still in shock,” said Ybarra. “I do the things I do because that’s what I love. I don’t expect anything back, but what goes around comes around.”

From VISD, we thank you, Angela, for making us #VISDProud!
