VISD new school buses

Four brand-new 2024 Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 School Buses arrived over the winter break and are currently being prepared to be placed into service next month. These school buses can carry up to 78 passengers sitting three per seat and come equipped with seat belts, onboard video surveillance systems, and GPS units. These new buses will replace aging buses that have far exceeded their useful life.

In addition to these units, we are eagerly awaiting two smaller buses that will be wheelchair accessible to serve our students with special needs.

Over the last two years, VISD has replaced 18 school buses, and has plans to place another order of new units soon.

“The district has put a great deal of effort into replacing our aging fleet, some of which were over 30 years old,” said Shanquil Fennell, VISD Director of Transportation. “Our goal is to transport students to and from school safely and efficiently. Newer buses are less likely to have mechanical issues which leads to breakdown and cause delays. The newer buses also have added safety features and equipment to better protect our students and staff.”

These buses were initially expected to be delivered Summer 2022 but were pushed back due to production delays. We are eager to place these buses on routes as we know they will service the district well.
