For the fourth consecutive year, Victoria ISD has received a “Best Communities for Music Education” (BCME) designation by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM).

For more than 20 years, the NAMM Foundation's BCME Award has been a signature program of the NAMM Foundation that recognizes and celebrates school districts and schools in the United States for their support and commitment to music education, efforts to assure access to music for all students as part of a well-rounded education, and innovative and resourceful music education programs for K-12.

To qualify for this honor, VISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute (MRI) at the University of Kansas.

“We are so thankful for the partnership between VISD and the Fine Arts Community, Victoria College, Students, and Parents,” said David Edge, VISD Fine Arts Director. “It changes people's lives!”

Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music. Everyday listening skills are stronger in musically trained children than in those without music training.
