In an incredible run of success, after bringing home the Region 5 5A Division 1 Regional Championship earlier this month, the Victoria East High School Lady Titan Powerlifting Team ended their Spring Break by taking home the 5A Division 1 Championship from the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Championship Meet in Frisco, successfully defending their title to become back-to-back state champs.
The team’s performance at the State meet was nothing short of remarkable. With 41 team points earned, the team took a huge 20-point lead over 2nd place.
Out of the 12 Lady Titan powerlifters who competed, 10 came home with top 5 medals. Two of those lifters, Maddisin Ruiz and Christen Hernandez, were individual State Champions in their weight class.

- Jayla Hernandez- 2nd Place 123 lbs. Weight Class
- Yaneiris Maldonado- 7th Place 123 lbs. Weight Class
- Kharli Garcia- 2nd Place 181 lbs. Weight Class
- Mia Lopez- 5th Place 198 lbs. Weight Class
- Azilee Leita- 6th Place 198 lbs. Weight Class
- Christen Hernandez- 1st Place State Champion 198 lbs. Weight Class
- Olivia Zboral- 2nd Place 220 lbs. Weight Class
- Genesis Rodriguez- 3rd Place 242+ lbs. Weight Class
“It was a great season,” said VEHS Head Powerlifting Coach Marcus Hernandez. “We had several ladies step up when we needed them the most, and we accomplished more as a team. This has been the most complete team I’ve had in my 5 years of coaching at East. I’m sad to see these seniors leave, but I know they will continue to do great things after they graduate. I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors, and I know the returning 4 girls will do great next year.”
