VISD art students VASE

Recently, Region 3 held their Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Art Competition, hosted by Victoria West High School. Victoria East and West art students, along with their dedicated teachers have worked tirelessly for weeks on end to prepare for this competition, and all of their hard work has paid off.

The competition was an amazing collection of young artists and their artwork. With over 350 entries, the event has grown exponentially and continues to do so.

This year, there were only 23 spots available for students to fill, allowing them to advance to the State round. Out of those 23 spots, Victoria ISD students from VEHS and VWHS snagged 14 spots.

“For many of our students, art is their passion and what they plan on pursuing after graduation,” said VEHS Art Teacher and District Visual Arts Facilitator Jamie Sainz. “It takes years of practice for them to hone their artistic skills. As teachers, we are only a guiding light to help them on their way to discover their genius that they already possess inside. To encourage their growth and help them shine bright. Year after year, the dedication and hard work that is seen by our students is always a pleasure to experience and warms our hearts. Being able to see our students grow and spread their wings is why many of us are in this profession.”

The State Round of the VASE Art Competition, hosted by San Marcos High School, will take place on April 26 - 27. Over 2,000 artworks will be on display in the high schools’ 4 gymnasiums, and the public is welcome to enjoy all of the amazing artworks that have made it to State and beyond.
