Victoria ISD Earns State's Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating

The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) proudly announces that it has been awarded an "A" rating for "Superior Achievement" under Texas’ School FIRST financial accountability rating system. The “Superior Achievement” rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of Victoria ISD’s financial management and reporting system.

This is the 21st year of the School FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999 and amendments under House Bill 5, 83rd Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2013.

The primary goal of School FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system.

Michelle Yates, Chief Financial Officer of VISD, expressed her satisfaction with the district's rating, stating, "We are very pleased with Victoria ISD's School FIRST rating. This rating demonstrates that our district not only ensures high-quality student learning but also accomplishes these results in a cost-effective and efficient manner. It underscores our commitment to maximizing the value of our taxpayers' dollars."

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts based on their fiscal performance. These ratings include "A" for "Superior Achievement," "B" for "Above-Standard Achievement," "C" for "Standard Achievement," and "F" for "Substandard Achievement."

VISD takes pride in being awarded the highest "A" rating for "Superior Achievement,” a testament to its unwavering dedication to fiscal responsibility and accountability.
