Victoria ISD Celebrates Historic Milestone: Lowest Tax Rate in 30 Years Approved by Board of Trustees for 2023-24

The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) is pleased to announce a significant achievement in its commitment to fiscal responsibility and community support. The Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the 2023-24 tax rate, marking a remarkable decrease of 24.84 cents per $100 of taxed property value. This historic decision positions VISD's tax rate as the lowest it has been in the past three decades.

The newly approved tax rate is a testament to the dedication of the district and its Board of Trustees in being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources.

Key highlights of the approved tax rate include:

  • Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Tax Rate: The M&O tax rate has been set at 0.6992 cents, reflecting a substantial reduction from the previous year's rate of 0.9102 cents. This reduction of 21.10 cents per $100 of taxed property value showcases the district's commitment to financial prudence.

  • Interest & Sinking (I&S) Tax Rate: The I&S tax rate stands at 0.1066 cents, contributing to the overall decrease in the tax burden for the community. This rate aligns with the district's strategic financial planning and responsible management of resources.

This milestone signifies the collaborative effort between VISD's administration, the Board of Trustees, and the community at large. It is a reflection of the district's ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsive governance.

Superintendent Quintin Shepherd expressed his gratitude, saying, "We are happy to have achieved a tax rate that not only fulfills the wishes of our residents but also reflects our commitment to responsible financial management. Being able to provide the community with what they have been asking for is a significant accomplishment that demonstrates our dedication to their priorities.”

As VISD prepares to embark on the 2023-24 school year, it does so with a renewed commitment to delivering outstanding educational experiences while upholding its fiscal responsibility. The district looks forward to continued collaboration with the community and to the bright future ahead for its students.
