Victoria ISD is continuing its commitment to expanding college and career opportunities for students by hosting a series of Dual Credit Parent Information Sessions this fall.
The sessions will take place ahead of course selection for the 2027โ28 school year, giving students and families an opportunity to learn about the dual credit courses available to them, understand eligibility and enrollment requirements, and make informed decisions before selecting courses.
To enroll in a dual credit course, a parent or guardian must attend one Dual Credit Parent Information Session prior to the student enrolling in Victoria College. Families may attend any one of the following sessions, each beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium:
September 22, 2026 โ Victoria East High School
October 14, 2026 โ Victoria West High School
November 12, 2026 โ Victoria West High School
Victoria ISD has made expanding access to dual credit opportunities a priority, creating more pathways for students to begin earning college credit while they are still in high school. By providing families with information earlier in the course selection process, the district hopes more students can take advantage of the opportunities available to them and intentionally plan their high school coursework with their future goals in mind.
One of VISDโs newest efforts to expand access is the Freshman 2 Freshman initiative, which gives ninth-grade students the opportunity to begin earning college credit during their freshman year of high school. By starting earlier, students have more time to accumulate college credits throughout high school, increasing the opportunity for them to earn an associate degree through the successful completion of dual credit coursework before graduating.
During the fall semester of the 2026โ27 school year, 129 VISD freshmen at Victoria East and Victoria West high schools are participating in dual credit courses through Victoria College.
Dual credit courses allow students to earn high school and college credit at the same time, giving them an opportunity to get ahead academically while potentially saving families both time and money after graduation. Depending on the courses completed and the college or university a student attends, those credits may reduce the number of courses needed to complete a certificate or college degree.
Beyond earning credits, dual credit provides students with valuable experience in college-level coursework while they still have the support and resources of their high school. Students can strengthen academic and time-management skills, build confidence and become familiar with the expectations of college before graduating from high school.
VISDโs continued expansion of dual credit opportunities, including Freshman 2 Freshman, is part of the districtโs commitment to ensuring students graduate prepared with meaningful options for what comes next, whether that is college, career training or another postsecondary pathway.
