Victoria Independent School District set a new district record by achieving a 50% overall increase in dual credit enrollment for the fall semester across both district high schools, reinforcing the districtโs commitment to college readiness. A total of 1,805 college hours were earned in one semester.
Districtwide dual credit participation grew from a seat count of 465 in fall 2024 to 695 in fall 2025. At Victoria West High School, seat counts increased from 281 students in fall 2024 to 387 in fall 2025. Victoria East High School saw growth from 184 in fall 2024 to 307 in fall 2025. Fifty-eight unique courses were offered to students.
In addition to increased participation, overall student success improved across the district. Students demonstrated higher pass rates of 94% at Victoria West High School and 90% at Victoria East High School. Victoria West High School improved success rates while also reducing course withdrawals. Victoria East High School experienced stronger academic success, with a noted increase in withdrawals that will serve as an opportunity for targeted retention and student support efforts.
โThis level of growth shows that more students are accessing college-level coursework while still in high school and succeeding,โ said Superintendent of Schools Sheila Collazo. โDual credit plays a critical role in preparing students for life after graduation, whether that path leads to college, a career, or the military. This success is fueled by VISDโs promise to pay for all college courses and fees.โ
The increase aligns directly with Victoria ISDโs college readiness goal, expanding equitable access to rigorous coursework while ensuring that students receive academic support.
How VISD Expanded Dual Credit Access and Participation
Victoria ISD, in collaboration with Victoria College, has implemented a series of coordinated strategies designed to expand dual credit access and improve student success. Over the past year, historical dual credit data in multiple areas was analyzed to identify areas of improvement. Through data-informed planning and consistent monitoring of student data to identify individual student needs, VISD and Victoria College have been providing additional student supports, such as VC Learning Assistants at both high schools to assist students in dual credit coursework. Strong advising sessions provided by both institutions, focused on student success and the removal of financial barriers for families, continue to positively impact dual credit access and participation in VISD.
District leaders will continue to evaluate enrollment trends, course success, and withdrawal data to strengthen support and further increase participation over time.
Victoria ISD remains committed to growing opportunities that help students graduate with college credit, confidence, and a strong foundation for their future.
