Victoria ISD is taking a proactive approach to one of the most pressing challenges in education: a declining pipeline of future teachers.
To help meet this need, the district created the VISD Academy to Certify Teachers, an initiative focused on preparing and supporting future educators right here in our community.
At the heart of this work is the BRIDGE Program, which provides a clear pathway for participants to earn a college degree and become certified teachers while continuing to work. In simple terms, this program allows individuals already connected to VISD to grow into teaching roles and serve students in our schools.
Since launching in May 2023, the BRIDGE Program has continued to grow and show strong results:
Cohort 1 (began May 2023): 47 participants
24 have earned their bachelor’s degree
21 have moved into teacher certification programs
10 more are expected to graduate in 2026
Cohort 2 (began April 2024): 28 participants
6 have earned their bachelor’s degree
5 have moved into certification programs
7 more are expected to graduate in 2026
Cohort 3 (began April 2025): 20 participants
All participants are continuing their coursework and earning college credit
3 expected to graduate in 2026
Cohort 4 (began February 2026): 7 participants just beginning their journey
Participants in the program complete VISD-designed coursework, earn college credit through Indiana Wesleyan University, and balance their studies with full-time responsibilities. Along the way, they build skills in areas like classroom management, lesson planning, and supporting student learning.
This year, VISD launched a new Paraprofessional Pathway to BRIDGE Cohort 4, designed specifically for current instructional paraprofessionals. This pathway allows them to begin working toward a teaching degree while gaining the college credits needed to move into the BRIDGE Program.
Pathway to BRIDGE Cohort 4 (began February 2026): 11 participants
Developed within the past seven months, this new pathway creates a structured, supported entry point for paraprofessionals to begin their journey toward becoming certified teachers.
Why This Matters
Programs like BRIDGE help ensure that more classrooms are led by teachers who already know and care about our students and community. By investing in people who are already part of Victoria ISD, the district is building a stronger, more stable future for our schools.
Celebrating Our Future Teachers
We are proud to celebrate the dedication and hard work of every BRIDGE and Pathway participant. From those just beginning their journey to those graduating and stepping into the classroom, each cohort represents the future of education in Victoria ISD.
Their commitment, perseverance, and passion for students are helping shape the next generation of teachers right here at home.
