Victoria Independent School District is launching a new theme to recognize trustees for Board Appreciation Month, “Champions of Our Future,” highlighting the district’s and each trustee's commitment to supporting students through strong leadership, best practices, and a safe, supportive learning environment.

“Champions of Our Future represents the work we do every day to help students grow academically, build confidence, and prepare for what comes next,” said Sheila Collazo, Superintendent of Schools. “It is a reminder that every student deserves clear advocates in their corner, and in Victoria ISD, we pride ourselves as those champions with our school board front and center.”

Throughout the 2025-26 school year, Victoria ISD will highlight the individuals, programs, and partnerships that contribute to shaping student success, encompassing academics, fine arts, athletics, career and technical education, student services, and family engagement.

VISD school board highlights and progress for this year include:

  • Opening the new Mission Valley Elementary school.

  • Staying results-focused by consistently reviewing student data and outcomes.

  • Celebrating VISD’s successes at monthly board meetings.

  • Adopting a balanced budget for the 2025-26 school year.

  • Ensuring the prudency of district funds by streamlining costs based on administrative recommendations.

  • Engaging with administration and the Bond Action Committee to assess districtwide facility needs.

  • Assessing underutilized facilities.

  • Approving and implementing new policy changes from the 89th Legislative session.

The “Champions of Our Future” theme reflects Victoria ISD’s focus on student growth and achievement by pursuing excellence in teaching and learning, identifying new ways to support and acknowledge staff, and strengthening partnerships with families and the community to further elevate outcomes for students. Together, we are champions of their future.
