Victoria East High School Senior Melissa Sanchez's graphite pencil drawing was sold at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) School Art Auction over Spring Break for a whopping $25,000.

Sanchez’s piece, titled “Seeking a Calm Saunter,” won Best of Show in the District earlier this year.

"My drawing sold for $25,000,” said Sanchez. “A portion of that will go directly to me. I will be using that money for furthering my education."

"Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest is a beautiful way not only to teach our art curriculum, but also the concentration and focus needed for working on a drawing or painting longer than a week,” said Victoria East Art Teacher Candace Coyle. “VISD has participated in this contest for many years. We have had many students reach auction level and use that money for college."

Way to go, Melissa! We are #VISDProud of this talented artist and excited to see what’s to come.
