Victoria Independent School District (VISD) recognized 92 exceptional Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars during the Awards and Recognition portion of the Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, October 16. These students have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams, reflecting their commitment to academic excellence.
“AP Scholars exemplify the dedication, persistence, and pursuit of excellence we value in VISD,” said Superintendent Sheila Collazo, Ed.D.. “Their success reflects rigorous teaching and strong family support, and it positions our students for future opportunities in college and career.”
The Advanced Placement (AP) program, administered by the College Board, offers high school students the chance to engage in college-level coursework across a wide range of subjects. Students earn high school credit for successful completion of AP courses, and they may also earn college credit based on their AP exam scores (3, 4, or 5), subject to the policies of the colleges or universities they attend.
College Board AP Scholar Awards
Each fall, the AP Program honors students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement by performing at a high level across multiple AP Exams. The awards are granted as follows:
AP Scholar: Students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.
AP Scholar with Honor: Students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
AP Scholar with Distinction: Students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
“AP courses challenge students to think critically, write analytically, and solve complex problems,” said Elise Tate, Director of Advanced Academics. “Our AP Scholars have set a high bar for academic excellence, and we’re proud to honor their achievements.”

About Advanced Placement at VISD
Victoria Independent School District (VISD) offers a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses that provide students with the opportunity to engage in college-level learning while still in high school. These courses enhance students' academic transcripts, strengthening their college applications. Additionally, depending on the policies of the attending institution, qualifying AP exam scores may be eligible for college credit. This can help reduce tuition costs and allow students to accelerate their degree progress.
