To enroll a child in school, it is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian to complete enrollment using the online registration system and to provide the following documents to the school:
Although enrollment shall not be denied solely on the basis of failure to provide these records, the District shall notify the appropriate law enforcement agency before the 31st day after the person fails to comply.
NOTE: Furnishing false information is a criminal offense under Penal Code 37.10.
Although there are some exceptions, a student is required to attend the school appropriate for the student's grade level and within the attendance zone in which the student's parent/guardian resides (see "Attendance Zones"). Proof of residency will be requested and reviewed to determine whether a student is eligible for admission at that school and if not, then the parent will be instructed as to which school the child must enroll at. Reference FDB-R.
The exceptions are as follows:
A student who enrolls in a school other than the one that serves the student's attendance zone without an approved transfer OR falsely as a homeless student shall be subject to immediate return to the designated neighborhood campus.

Applications for Pre-K Enrollment
Kindergarten Student Enrollment
Although state law does not require students to attend kindergarten, it is excellent preparation for first grade, and we encourage parents to enroll their children. To enter kindergarten, a child must be five years old by September 1st of the school year for which he/she would be eligible to attend kindergarten and be current on required immunizations. Students who are 4 years old on September 1st may enroll in kindergarten only if the child has successfully completed prekindergarten in an accredited public or private school.
Parents/guardians of kindergarten eligible students should register online for the school assigned to his/her attendance zone (see "Attendance Zones") prior to the start of the upcoming school year during which the child would begin kindergarten. Parent/guardian will be required to present necessary enrollment information at that time.
First Grade Student Enrollment
A child may be enrolled in the first grade if the child:
Students who are 4 or 5 years old may enroll in the first grade only if the child has successfully completed kindergarten or is currently enrolled in the first grade in an accredited public or private school. Students who are 6 years old will enroll in the first grade unless the student was recommended for kindergarten retention by an accredited public or private school.
How Does Online Registration Work?
Parents/guardians should log on to the VISD website and locate the Online Registration link titled "New Student Enrollment." Also, you are strongly encouraged to review the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) found on the Registration Page for more information.
Note: Once the form is electronically submitted, you will receive an e-mail confirmation but that does not mean your child’s registration is “complete.” You must still submit all required documents to the school either by uploading them during online registration or by hand-delivering them to the school before registration is “COMPLETE.”
If you have trouble with the online process or do not have access to a computer, each campus will have computers available for parental use. Please call the school during regular business hours to make an appointment should you need to access a school computer for registration.
