Student Technology Distribution Delays

Unfortunately, VISD is facing another delay with our hotspots. If you were scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, Thursday, May 7, or previously received a voucher for a hotspot, please come on Friday, May 8, at your originally scheduled time, to pick it up. You may also come on Friday, May 8, to pick up a hotspot if you were previously scheduled to pick one up and never picked up a voucher for it.

If you have a voucher, please make sure to bring it with you. Please do not come to pick up a hotspot on May 8 unless you were previously scheduled to pick up a hotspot or a voucher and didn’t receive one or have a voucher for a hotspot.

If you were scheduled to pick up a device on Wednesday, May 6, with or without a hotspot, please come on Thursday, May 7, at your originally scheduled time, to pick it up.

Pickup times for each day are from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. There will be no more distribution days after this week. If you have any questions, please call 361-788-2828.
Student Technology Distribution Delays & Expanded WiFi

Unfortunately, we are facing another delay with our hotspots. The good news is that they are in stock and the vendor is working on getting them to us in the next few days. As a result, we are moving the hotspot pickup dates from April 30 and May 1 to May 6 and 7, for those who have received a voucher or have been scheduled to pick up a hotspot.

We greatly appreciate your patience. Be sure to bring the voucher you received with you and please do not come to pick up a hotspot on May 6th or 7th unless you were previously scheduled to pick up a hotspot and didn’t receive one or have a voucher. If you have any questions, please call 361-788-2828.”

Also, we are extending our wi-fi network at many of our campuses. Wi-fi access will be available 7 days a week, from 7 am to 7 pm at the following campuses:
Aloe Cade Chandler
DeLeon Dudley East
Hopkins Howell Mission Valley
O'Connor Patti Welder Rowland
Schorlemmer Smith Stroman
Torres Vickers West

If you wish to utilize the networks at these campuses, please park in the parking lot and remain in your car. Your student can then connect to the “Radius” network with their VISD username (the first part of their email address – without “@student.visd.net”) and password. If you need to get out of your car to get a better signal, please practice social distancing.
Student Technology Distribution Delays
If you received a voucher or have been scheduled to pick up a hotspot for your student on April 23rd and 24th, we have had to move the pickup dates to April 30th and May 1st. This is due to nationwide shipping delays.

Be sure to bring your voucher and please do not come to pick up a device on April 30th or May 1st unless you were previously scheduled to pick up a hotspot and didn’t receive one or have a voucher for a hotspot.

If you have any questions, call 361-788-2828. We greatly appreciate your patience.
Student Technology Distribution -- Schedule Changes

Pickup dates have been moved to April 23 and 24 for parents who have received a voucher or been scheduled to pick up a hotspot or device for their student on April 16 and 17. This is due to delays in the shipment of the technology. Do not come to pick up a device on April 23 or 24 unless you were previously scheduled for the 16 or 17, or have a voucher for a hotspot.

If you have any questions, please call 361-788-2828. We appreciate your patience!

Student Technology Device Distribution

This week, Victoria ISD will continue curbside technology pickup at varying locations across the District to issue equipment such as laptops and iPads to students who do not already have them. Technology pickup is by appointment only.

Due to shipping delays, internet hotspots will be distributed April 16th and 17th. Please note, this effort is being prioritized for students with no technology device available for at-home learning. We have limited devices available and are doing our best to get these devices to our students who truly need them for at-home learning. Staff is continuing to review technology survey submissions and contact parents to schedule device pickup.

Student Technology Device Distribution
The VISD Technology Department has started distribution of devices. The distributions scheduled for Thursday, April 2, have been postponed to Friday, April 3, at the same times. Technology staff is still working on placing calls to those who have qualified for a device through the second window of our Technology Resources survey.
You must have an appointment to pick up a device. We appreciate your patience as we work through extended delays in receiving the necessary equipment for students.
Second Student Technology Needs Survey Available

If you have a Pre-K -12th grade student currently enrolled in VISD who does not have a device that they can use to access online instruction, or does not currently have home internet access, and you were unable to fill out our previous device survey, please fill out the new survey here: This survey is no longer available; closed April 1.

Please do not fill out this survey if you have previously filled out the device survey or have called and had a staff member fill out the survey for you, or if you called and were put on a waiting list.

After filling out the survey, if your student is eligible to receive a device or internet hotspot, a campus Librarian will call you to schedule a pickup time. Please be advised that due to inventory limitations, there may be an extended delay between survey completion and device pickup.

If you were unable to fill out the survey or have transportation concerns, please call 361-788-2828 to speak with a staff member who will complete the form for you, schedule your time slot, and help address your concerns.

After 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 1st, the survey will close, and no further calls for devices will be accepted. We will not be opening another survey for devices after this one.

REASONS YOU MAY NOT RECEIVE A DEVICE:

  • If you fill out this second student device survey and have not received a call to schedule your pickup time by Wednesday, April 8th, then you were not eligible to receive a device or hotspot for your student. If you have questions about this, please call 361-788-2828.
  • If you filled out the previous student device survey and have not received a call to schedule your pickup time by Wednesday, April 1st, then you were not eligible to receive a device or hotspot for your student. If you have questions about this, please call 361-788-2828.
  • If you selected “no” to the last question in the survey, indicating that you do not agree to the terms you will be asked to follow, you are not eligible to receive a device or hotspot for your student.
  • If you refuse to sign the agreement upon device pickup, you will also be denied a device and / or hotspot, and will be required to either provide a device for your student or pick up a paper packet from their campus to continue their education, or their grade-level promotion may be at risk.

Please be advised that you will be required to pay a minimum of $20 for each device and accessory that you either return to us damaged, or that has been stolen or lost. If the device has been stolen, the district must be provided with a police report of the incident within 10 business days, otherwise the device will be deemed “lost” and you will be required to pay the district for the full price of the device. A cost table associated with these charges will be located on the agreement you will receive and be asked to sign upon device pickup.

The “Technology Lending Agreement” posted below has been updated to reflect these changes. All costs in the cost table on that agreement are for example only and are subject to change.

If you need assistance, our call center at 361-788-2828 is available from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday.

Reviewing Data from Student Technology Needs Survey
We are still in the process of analyzing responses from parents regarding the need for devices and internet hotspots. At this time, we will be distributing between 2,000 and 2,500 devices and around 1,000 hotspots to students. We are also working to distribute hotspots to staff members who have no internet access at home.

Just like when they are at school, student devices will be pre-loaded with the necessary learning tools, and will have an internet filter installed on them to help protect students while they are on the internet.

If a student is eligible to receive a device or hotspot, their guardian will receive a phone call by April 1st to schedule their device pickup time. We are still working to place these calls.Distribution will be drive up and guardians will be asked to sign a Technology Lending Agreement before they are given the device. The agreement outlines responsible use and costs associated with damaged, lost, or stolen devices. The guardian will have to agree to pay the full replacement cost of the device if it is lost or stolen, and the district is not provided with a police report within 10 (ten) business days.

There will be a $20 charge for returned devices that have been damaged and for stolen devices when we have been provided with a police report.Parents should call 361-788-2828 for any questions related to technology or the lending agreement fees.

For Verizon Wireless customers: Verizon is offering free 15 GB of hotspot data on most plans, to be used between now and 04/30/2020. Contact Verizon for more information.
