Ella, an eight-year-old Schorlemmer Elementary student received a prosthetic hand designed by 2017 Victoria West High School graduate James Easton.
"Wow, it's stronger than it looks!" Ella said as she used her new hand to pick up several everyday objects. She also was able to clutch two dolls, one in each hand, for the first time as she played with her brother.
Easton, who was enrolled in a Career and Technical Education engineering course, designed and printed the hand using a 3-D printer during his senior year at West High School.
Several weeks ago, Ella saw the hand for the first time when Easton fitting it to her arm. After a few final tweaks, the completed hand was given to Ella today. Ella says she is excited for her friends and teachers to see it at school next year.
