The mission of the VISD’s Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability (CIA) Department is to provide leadership and resources to customers with a commitment to quality educational service.
VISD uses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to teach children. The TEKS taught in VISD for the core areas of Math, Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts are in a curriculum framework called CSCOPE: with the exception for Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Advanced Placement courses use a College Board approved curriculum. Career and Technical Education, Fine Arts, Languages other than English use TEKS - based locally developed curriculum. Physical Education also uses TEKS through a framework called TAHPERD. Other co-curricular courses such as AVID or TEEN Leadership rely upon a research-based scope and sequence of objectives and standards.
